Description
Rhinoceros on the cave wall
Rambling in the wild countryside is one of my favourite pastimes. It looked like the opening of a lost cave but in the beginning I was rather hesitant to enter thinking about the danger of the possibility of stumbling on some wild animal sleeping in its den, then taking a deep breath and with a thumping heart I bravely stepped into the unknown. It was not so far from the entrance so it received some light filtering in from the nearby opening and there it was, this partly intact sketch of a charcoal drawing or a large splash of dusty colour. A closer look and with a little imagination my hopes flared and I became an amateur archaeologist. Could it be that I had stumbled upon a long lost abandoned cave in which the original inhabitants the early hunter cavemen had left a drawing of a rhinoceros hunt. The marks are there and one could discern the vague lines with a colour wash resembling a rhinoceros with its lowered head charging at someone or something confronting him or was it trying to escape some danger?
The artwork is presented in the form of an assemblage of three panels with the final measurements as 62 x 97 cm and in an edition three prints.
